The tiramisu martini is something decadent to enjoy after dinner or as a late night sip. A combination of espresso, coffee liqueur and Irish cream.
If you're a fan of classic cocktails, you've likely encountered the ever-popular Espresso Martini. This dessert drink is a twist on this classic, with added richness from chocolate and Irish liqueur.
The Espresso Martini legacy
This sophisticated blend of coffee and vodka has become a staple for those seeking something both tasty and familiar. In the bustling cocktail culture of the 1980s, bartender extraordinaire Dick Bradsell is credited with concocting the first Espresso Martini. As the story goes, a customer requested a drink that would wake me up and then f**k me up, and Bradsell, with his creative genius, whipped up the now-iconic mix of fresh espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur, and a touch of simple syrup. This instant classic not only provided a perfect pick-me-up for the late-night crowd but also ignited a trend that remains popular to this day.
Tiramisu's Italian history
Velvety layers of mascarpone and the subtle bitterness of espresso, Tiramisu is a beloved Italian dessert. The origin of Tiramisu is a subject of culinary debate, but it's widely believed to have originated in the Veneto region of Italy in the 1960s.
Tiramisu, meaning pick me up or lift me up in Italian, was created as a bit of a revitalising treat. Combining layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, and a dusting of cocoa powder, Tiramisu quickly became a symbol of indulgence and sophistication, making its way onto dessert menus worldwide.
A match made in heaven
The fusion of these two icons just makes sense really. The creamy essence of Tiramisu, elevated with the bold kick of an Espresso Martini. This decadent cocktail blends the rich, coffee-infused notes with the luscious sweetness of mascarpone.
Crafting the perfect Tiramisu Martini involves combining espresso, coffee liqueur, Irish liqueur and cream. Shaken and strained into a martini glass, then topped with mascarpone cheese and grated chocolate, this divine creation offers a sip-worthy tribute to the classic Italian dessert.
A boozy dessert
As with the Espresso Martini, these types of cocktails usually replace dessert at the end of a meal and often feature with creamy or syrupy liqueurs or a shot of espresso. Think affogato or a Brandy Alexander. Something a little heavier and indulgent than a digestif. A Tiramisu Martini fits right in.
