The lesser-known New York Sour, made on whiskey, with a red wine float on top.
Here in Australia we've transitioned into Spring, a favourite season among many. Sunshine, blossoming flowers and warm breezes are elements of the season just made to be soaked in, drink in hand.
Sours are a group of mixed drinks combining a base liquor, lemon or lime juice with an optional egg white foam on top. The New York Sour is a slightly less-common drink of the sours category. With a whiskey sour base, the defining element is a full bodied red wine float sitting on top. The result is a beautiful sunset-coloured drink.
Appearing on the scene in the 1880s, the New York Sour went through a variety of titles, like Continental Sour and Southern Whiskey Sour, before settling on it's current namesake. You'll see versions of this drink made with and without the egg white on top. It's up to you how you'd like to serve it.
