The Kir Royale is a simple, sweet and fruity drink perfect for long lunches or special occasions.
We've arrived at the end of 2022, and what a year it was. I like to think I made strides with Eatnik this year, moving from photos to almost exclusively video content in an attempt to wrangle the wretched algorithm and gain confidence in front of the camera. As a result I've made many a recipe and cocktail video and jumping in front of the camera is no where near as daunting and as scary as it was 12 months ago.
As my final drink of 2022, I give you a very easy, two ingredient number. I think we are well past complicated recipes by this stage of the year, so let's wrap things up with a fruity, sparkling number. My inspiration came from watching Emily in Paris in those weird limbo days between Christmas and New Years. Kir Royale features in the third season, and has since been called the 'drink of 2023' in several news articles.
This is a sparkling version of the classic Kir cocktail: a combination of white wine and crème de cassis, which is blackcurrant liqueur. This is a French cocktail, so as you may of guessed, we swap the wine for champagne and the humble Kir transforms to a Kir Royale. Personally, I like to save my ritzy champagne for enjoying as is, so instead I opt for a cheaper sparkling wine for this drink. Each to their own though, use what you'd like.
To me, the simplicity and the sparkle of this drink makes it a wonderful option for a New Years Eve signature drink if you're celebrating with friends, family or the ones you love. It's guaranteed to be loved by almost everyone, and goes down nicely with canapes or appetizers to get the night going.
Watch the video here. If you make this one (or if you decide that it will become your drink of 2023), tag me! I love to see it!
Finally, thank you so much for all of the love and support this year. I could not be more grateful to be able to share my deep love of food and cooking with others online. It has been an absolute pleasure. I've got some exciting things planned for 2023, so I'll see you on the other side!
