The Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte is lightly sweet and refreshing drink combining a fresh strawberry compote with a classic cold matcha.
I've seen versions of this drink doing the rounds on social media and I've finally stopped resisting! Last week Queensland Strawberries kindly sent me many a punnet of fresh berries, so what better time than now to try the iced strawberry matcha latte?
There are several ways to make this drink, but the recipe I've created is my favourite (of course). There's a little bit of prep involved, but trust me, it's worth it. It starts with a fresh strawberry compote. A combination of diced strawberries, sugar and a splash of water yields a chunky sauce you can keep in the fridge for up to two weeks. This sits at the bottom of the glass, followed by a milk layer and then your matcha on top.
It goes without saying that the best quality produce you can get will yield the most delicious drink. if you're in Australia, strawberries are in season and cheap (yay). Your iced strawberry matcha latte will benefit from ceremonial grade matcha, however the cheaper quality stuff isn't bad when you're mixing it with the compote! I used regular milk for my version, but oat milk would be divine! Even vanilla oat milk? Or vanilla soy? Milk type is completely up to you!
Watch the video here. If you make this one, don't forget to tag me on Instagram or TikTok, I love to see it.
Thank you to Queensland Strawberries for kindly gifting me the strawberries used in this recipe. This recipe is otherwise not sponsored.
Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte
Ingredients
Strawberry compote (makes enough for 4 drinks)
- 250 g strawberries, hulled (1 punnet)
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
Matcha latte
- 1 teaspoon matcha powder
- 60 mL boiling water
- Ice
- 250 mL milk
Instructions
Strawberry compote:
- Dice strawberries and place into a small saucepan. Add sugar and water and place over a medium heat. Bring to the boil, and then reduce to a simmer.
- Cook for 5-10 minutes until fruit breaks down creating a chunky sauce. Remove from the heat, pour into a jar or container and allow to cool before using. Compote will store for up to two weeks in an airtight container in the fridge.
Matcha latte:
- Sift matcha powder into a bowl. Add boiling water. Using a matcha whisk or handheld milk frother, mix for 30 seconds until powder is completely dissolved.
- Add 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry compote to the base of a glass. Add ice and top with milk, then pour matcha over the top creating a layering effect. Mix the drink completely before drinking.
