Brazilian lemonade is creamy and refreshing. Made with fresh limes, water and condensed milk, it's both tart and sweet.
Brazilian lemonade originated in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil. The drink is believed to have been invented by a street vendor who sold a concoction made from limes, sugar, and water. Over time, the recipe was refined and condensed milk was added to create the creamy texture that is now a hallmark of the drink today.
As for its name, it is sometimes referred to as "limonada suíça" or Swiss lemonade in Brazil. This is likely due to the fact that the drink's frothy texture and use of condensed milk resemble a Swiss beverage called "leche condensada." However, the origins of the name remain somewhat of a mystery.
Today, Brazilian lemonade can be found in restaurants and cafes around the world. Its unique flavor and creamy texture have made it a beloved beverage, now peaking the interest of many a social-media user with its current resurgence on all the platforms.
This really is a simple recipe, with only three ingredients. It involves blending the limes whole. Just a note - blending the limes for too long can result in a bitter taste due to the oils in the peel. When the peel is blended for too long, the oils are released into the drink, creating a bitter flavor that can be overpowering. To avoid this, it is recommended to blend the limes for no more than 10-15 seconds.
