Hello, my name is Andrea and I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian and nutritionist, recipe developer and food photographer from Brisbane, Australia.
I'm a self-taught home cook and I love to I create food that makes me happy, whether it be wholesome or indulgent (or a little bit of both). Eatnik gives me a little corner of the internet to be able to share my recipes and as a result I hope your feel inspired to recreate them at home. So many of my favourite memories with family and friends involve eating a delicious meal - food really is heart and soul to me and I try to translate this through simple recipes and beautiful photography.
Eatnik is an outlet for my everyday eating stories and adventures. It's not crime to indulge every so often, in fact I encourage it. Food is wonderful and has the ability to bring nothing but enjoyment to every aspect of life. It is social, artistic and creative just as much as it is sustenance - combine it with a healthy mind and lifestyle and you dramatically improve quality of life.
Keep up with my day to day as well as my step-by-step recipe stories on my Instagram:

Frequently Asked Questions:
What does Eatnik mean?
Probably my most asked question. Sadly, no exciting story. It doesn't mean anything. It was a word I made up nine years ago while trying to think of something to name my blog.
What did you study?
I have a Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) and also more recently, a Master of Public Health majoring in Health Promotion. Initially I stepped into private practice work, before moving into more upstream projects and now a state-wide public health program. Right now, I currently work my day job full time from 9-5. During my studies, and throughout my career so far, I have maintained Eatnik, developing recipes, creating content for brands and companies, posting to the website and interacting via social media.
Why nutrition?
I trained to be a professional dancer straight out of high school, but wasn't able to fund myself to go overseas after my initial course. Through dance I became more interested in nutrition, in particular how it is viewed in the industry I was in, as well as how proper nutrition can support athletes. Obtaining a nutrition degree provided me with the opportunity to explore a career supporting people with their diet and further to this, their relationship with food. In terms of food though, I've always been interested. Probably because of my mother who is an unbelievable cook and exposed me to such a wide variety of food as I was growing up.
What is your background?
Born and raised in Australia, my mother is Malaysian-Chinese and my father is Scottish.
How did you get into recipe development and photography?
I create recipes on a day-to-day basis for myself and then began capturing and displaying them via Instagram. Eatnik eventually progressed from a hobby to a business, but has always remained a passion from then to now. I love photography and grew from iPhone photos to finally purchasing a DSLR and learning how to edit properly; I think a beautiful photo of food can help in elevating the qualities of the ingredients and recipe, simply because we eat with our eyes.
Can I use your photos or recipes?
If you'd like to share one of my images or a recipe, please link back to the original recipe on my blog so I can check it out! On social media, I'd love for you to share my recipes and photos far and wide - thank you so much for everyone who has given me and Eatnik support over the years! In terms of republishing recipes: please do not do so without prior consent from myself due to Australian copyright laws. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch at: andrea@eatnik.com.au or via my contact page.

Hello, I am Ann and recently diagnosed Diabetes II. So I have been researching and more researching on the disease as well as eating and other things I can do to help with my prognosis which I intend to improve with diet and walking and more walking. Thanks for your recipes; I found them through [From: My health for life about Bowl recipes that'll bowl you over]. Once I read the article and wanted more, I traversed through https://www.myhealthforlife.com.au/living-well/know-your-health-better/bowl-them-over-with-poke-oh-keh to your own recipe for the Salmon. Which I love! Thanks very much for your diligence in this area; I need it and I am very grateful.
