The steamed bun is a winning food item in my family household – our household being made up of three Asians and one Scotsman who likes ethnic food. Pork buns are an oriental favourite among almost everyone I know, the softness of the bun blows everyone’s minds.
In the fast paced society we live in today, I guess it was only a matter of time before someone came up with the quick-footed idea to make food on the go. Now there are a surplus of fast food restaurants around where you barely need to lean out your car window to access the greasy goodness of a hamburger, but what about something different? Something good quality, tasty and mobile?
The Bun Mobile is a taste sensation travelling around all parts of Brisbane, delivering Asian-style steamed buns with delectable, locally grown fillings. Think burger, with an oriental twist. A simple menu consisting of 3 options for fillings, plus a new special every day and a dessert bun. The Bun Mobile delivers tasty food for cheap, roadside; all you need to do is follow their whereabouts on their facebook page.
On Friday, a grumbling stomach led me to my iPhone and I quickly located the buns in Fortitude Valley. Surrounded by a small crowd of people as eager to eat as I was, I ordered and waited. I’m glad to report I was pleasantly surprised how well the soft steamed bun went with the new contemporary fillings. Gone was the shredded pork mix I was used to, and in was a delicious serving of char grilled teriyaki chicken, slaw with julienne carrot and mint, Japanese mayo and hoisin sauce.
Keep your eyes out, Brisbane, for the roaming Bun Mobile and stop by to see what all the fuss is about, I guarantee your taste buds will enjoy the experience.
